There are a huge number of devices and communication methods involved within Information and Communication Technology (ICT), some more obvious than others. Obviously, not everything within the ICT field is relevant in every teaching situation. Knowing what is a relevant, contributory, ICT resource can be key to a successful strategy.

TechnologyWhen formulating any strategy, it's important to have a clear aim and to have some knowledge of the resources available to you. It's also important to be aware of the areas of technology that are currently the 'new kid on the block'. At least as far as the children are concerned

Here, in no particular order, are some useful tools and considerations when planning to use ICT;

All of the items listed above can be considered ICT resources and the lists are by no means exhaustive. All of the above can be used to enhance a child's learning experience, right across the curriculum. It's not just about what you use though, it's also about how you use it. Planning and preparation are two key factors in getting the best out of your resources. That of course includes knowing what your resources are and how best to use them. Sounds simple really, but it's surprising how many people don't really understand the best way to utilise ICT. We can help. ICT should not just be considered as a 'subject' in it's own right. More usefully, it is a resource to be utilised right across the curriculum to assist teachers and classroom assistants in enriching a child's learning experience.
